Navigating a Solution

The Home Depot had our team at BILT design instructions for assembling and installing in-store displays across multiple locations.
With diverse store layouts, we needed to ensure correct product placement and orientation. Referencing users to planograms resolved unnecessary workload.
Designing for Users

Our user base comprised contracted teams of workers in their early 20s to late 30s. Despite their initial excitement, the workers hesitated to use our product in assembly, even when unfamiliar with the process.
We discovered that the managers held the key to successful adoption. We tailored the instructions to their needs, providing clear overviews instead of step-by-step guidance. This empowered managers to lead and demonstrate each step to workers, while also highlighting potential errors.
On-Site Research

Multiple in-store visits allowed us to refine our instructions and observe team usage. Surprisingly, new teams led by fresh managers exhibited a remarkable 14% increase in speed and 45% improvement in accuracy, outperforming experienced veterans. The instructions played a vital role in guiding new team leaders and minimizing common mistakes arising from assumptions and experience.
Collaboration with manufacturers led to the development of a jig, enabling precise installation of bollards at the correct distance from in-store displays. This streamlined the installation process and enhanced accuracy.
Internal Leadership

I led designers to create subsequent procedures, ensuring consistency and adherence to guidelines. I actively engaged with manufacturers, collaborated with Home Depot representatives, and participated in overnight builds alongside senior leadership and representatives of The Home Depot. These experiences strengthened stakeholder relationships and showcased my effective communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
Outcomes

My role in leading the team, collaborating with stakeholders, and engaging with users demonstrated my problem-solving abilities, effective communication, strong leadership, and collaborative approach. This case study showcases my expertise, emphasizing my commitment to innovation and collaboration for successful project outcomes.
Leveraging our initial procedure as a guide, we replicated the process for 14 additional procedures, resulting a 40% reduced production time. This streamlined approach improved resource allocation and highlighted my problem-solving abilities and commitment to delivery.
We found that attending an installation in-person was much easier to complete the design of the procedure. It allowed us to ask questions and see the best way to perform the installations. Ultimately, we finished designing all the Store Display Installations procedures in a timely manner.
